Official Opening CARICERT

TRANSITS I CSIRT training at CARICERT

On March 13, 14 and 15 Bureau Telecommunication and Post and CARICERT in collaboration with TRANSITS held  a TRANSITS 1 CSIRT training. It was attended by 15 security specialists from mainly the banking and telecommunication sector of Curacao.

The TRANSITS course aims to develop the knowledge and skills required by employees  who are members of a Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), who will join such a team, or who are involved in creating such a team. The course has been developed by members of CSIRTs in Europe for all sectors, from public and governmental to commercial, under the auspices of TF-CSIRT which  has been bringing CSIRTs in Europe together since 1999. TF-CSIRT is organized by TERENA under the auspices of TERENA's task force TF-CSIRT.

The  participants were taught all of the aspects of a CSIRT:  Organizational, Operational, Technical and Legal. With this training security officers of CARICERT’s constituents know how CARICERT works, they understand the incident handling processes and are aware of cybercrime techniques and tactics. Also they will be able to setup a CSIRT within their own companies.

There was also a role-playing section, where the participants got to simulate a security incident involving different roles all of which played a crucial part in resolving the incident. The exercise provided the participants with a different outlook of incident handling and that putting what you read on paper in action can be quite challenging.

The training was given by several CERT-specialists, among which a member of the  NCSC.NL team in the Netherlands. All participants in the training were rewarded with a TRANSITS I certificate.
